English Department

About

The English Department offers an A.A. emphasis in Creative Writing, in addition to its General Education offerings; English I and English II. The required English series provides students with an introduction to Composition, Research, Grammar, and Rhetoric. Additional coursework in American Indian Literature and in Environmental Writing provide a unique focus to the program.

For students in the Creative Writing program, a 15 credit hour Emphasis Requirement must be taken along with the General Education Requirements. This includes Creative Writing, Poetry Writing I, Fiction Writing I, and one of the advanced writing classes in poetry, fiction, or environmental writing. Literature courses fulfill the remaining Creative Writing electives.

Mission Statement

The mission of the English department is to provide higher education to federally recognized tribal members.  The English department accomplishes this mission through provision of a curriculum that is culturally sensitive, innovative, and academically excellent.
