Justina George scored 34 points, and Haskell Indian Nations University rolled past St. Mary, 85-49, in women’s basketball Tuesday night at Coffin Complex.
George went 9-for-9 from the free-throw line and 14-of-19 from the field in addition to making seven steals.
Maria Parker added 12 points and six rebounds for the Fightin’ Indians.
“I was surprised,” HINU coach Phil Homeratha said. “Last year we beat them 60-56, and I think that was the first time we beat them. The bad news is we have to go back up there in another week.”
The Indians will play at St. Mary on Tuesday.
St. Mary committed 30 turnovers and shot just 27 percent.
“That was a result of our pressure,” Homeratha said.
Meanwhile, Haskell shot 45 percent from two-point range and connected on 24 of 25 free throws.
“It was just a good shooting night,” Homeratha said. “We work on our free throws a lot. I make them shoot when they’re tired. That really helps their concentration.”
The Indians also had 22 steals.
“That’s big,” Homeratha said. “We played well tonight, and that makes you feel good when you execute what you practice.”
Haskell (5-1) will play host to Bethel on Saturday for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
