Haskell Men Win MCAC Conference Championship

The Haskell Cross Country team traveled to St. Louis, Missouri on November 6, 2009 to compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Regional Cross Country National Qualifier. The race took place on Saturday, November 7, 2009, a beautiful and warm fall day, a great race day. The men’s and women’s cross country teams both ran well, however it was the men’s team that won the conference title for Haskell Indian Nations University Athletic Programs. Haskell Athletics is governed by the NAIA (since 1999), and is a participating member of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC). The conference title is the first in the history of Haskell Athletics as a NAIA and MCAC institution.

The Haskell Men’s Team will be competing in the coming week at a qualifier for the 2010 NAIA Outdoor National Track & Field Championships.

The 2009 Haskell Cross Country Team Members include:
Leo Becenti III, from Table Mesa, NM is a senior majoring in Elementary Education.
Delvin Benny, from Blanco Canyon, NM, a sophomore majoring in Natural Resources.
Dwight Carlston, from Twin Lakes, NM, is a sophomore majoring in Natural Resources. 1st Team All Conference.
Harlan Harvey, from Rough Rock, NM, a sophomore majoring in Liberal Arts.
Dion John, from Twin Lakes, is sophomore majoring in Health, Sport and Exercise Science/Sports Medicine.
Dean Kemppainen, from Lukachukai, AZ, a freshman is majoring in Liberal Arts.
Thomas Zunie, from Zuni, NM, a freshman majoring in Liberal Arts.
1st Team All Conference.
Matt Grant, from Whiteriver, AZ, a freshman majoring in Liberal Arts. .

We are all very proud of the team here at Haskell Indian Nations University, and hope that this is the beginning of more winning teams for our university.
