Justina George-Academic All American, MCAC Player of the Week
Senior Co-Captain Justina George is a member of the Navajo Nation from Ramah, New Mexico, and has been a three year starter for the lady Indian’s.
In 2008-09 Justina George was named to the N.A.I.A. Academic All American team. The criteria for this honor are a 3.65 cumulative grade point average for three years. With a rigorous academic schedule in the Environmental Science program, Justina has maintained a 3.83 GPA and will graduate with a degree from the Division of Natural Sciences. She becomes the second scholar athlete in the women’s basketball program to achieve this honor.
She was also named the Scholar Athlete of the Year for Haskell Indian Nations University in the Midland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Justina George was also named the MCAC conference athlete of the week for the first two weeks of competition for the 2009-2010 Season.
In week one for three games she averaged 16.3 points, 5.3 assists, 4.7 steals, and 4.3 rebounds per game. In a 72 -64 win over Ottawa she had 19 points, eight steals, six rebounds, and six assists.
In week two for three games she averaged 22.3 points, 6.3 assists, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.0 steals per game. I a 77-62 win over Midland Lutheran College she had 26 points including 6 three pointers, with eight assists, four rebounds, and three steals.
A complete all-around player, Justina excels in several categories and is a major reason behind the Lady Indian’s # 18 national ranking, and 12-2 record. Both Justina (11th) and the Lady Indians are ranked (15th) nationally in several categories
Justina is the ideal student athlete who does everything amazingly well. She studies and analyzes well and is a very serious student-athlete who plays at a very high level of intensity.
