January 13, 2010

Haskell Indian Nations University shook off the rust and defeated Central Christian on Tuesday in women’s college basketball.

Haskell won, 60-42, at Coffin Complex in its first game since Dec. 5.

“That’s a long break. It’s a little bit too long,” Haskell coach Phil Homeratha said. “We needed to play. We were kind of rusty from not playing. We didn’t shoot well.”

HINU shot 32 percent.

“That’s very, very unlike Haskell,” Homeratha said.

But the Indians had 23 steals and forced 33 turnovers.

Justina George led the Indians with 21 points, and Maria Parker added 12 points.

“The big thing is the girls came to play,” Homeratha said.

The Indians (13-3) will play host to Omaha College of St. Mary at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Central Christian men 90, Haskell 86

Haskell had four men score in double figures, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 51-point performance by Central Christian’s Sean High.

Marcellus Hill led Haskell (2-16) with 25 points. D.J. Fish added 20, Dominic Clichee 18 and Tyler Cooper 13.

HINU will host Bellvue on Friday.
