Haskell Women Ranked 17th in the NAIA

Jan. 18, 2010

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Davenport (Mich.) maintained its position at No. 1 in the fifth edition of the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the NAIA announced Monday. The Lady Panthers captured 13 first-place votes and 404 points to spend its third week at the top-ranked team. Hastings (Neb.) and Northwestern (Iowa) held steady at second and third, respectively, while Indiana Wesleyan jumped to No. 4 and Cedarville (Ohio) moved to No. 5.

Second-ranked Hastings also earned a pair of first-place nods in the poll to spend its third straight week at No. 2 and its sixth week this season ranked among the top five. Indiana Wesleyan moves back among the top five to No. 4 to match its highest ranking of the season. The Wildcats were previously ranked fourth in the second poll of the season on Dec. 7.

The Great Plains Athletic Conference continues to lead all leagues with five ranked teams: Hastings, Northwestern, No. 7 Briar Cliff (Iowa), No. 12 Mount Marty (S.D.) and No. 18 Morningside (Iowa). The Mid-Central Collegiate Conference boasts four ranked teams in No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan, No. 15 Bethel (Ind.), No. 21 Saint Francis (Ind.) and No. 24 Marian (Ind.). Four teams are also represented by the Dakota Athletic Conference in No. 6 Jamestown (N.D.), No. 10 Minot State (N.D.) No. 13 Black Hills State (S.D.) and No. 25 Dickinson State (N.D.).

No. 21 Saint Francis, No. 23 Iowa Wesleyan and No. 25 Dickinson State are the new additions to the poll, replacing previously ranked No. 23 Taylor (Ind.), No. 21 Grand View (Iowa) and No. 25 Bryan (Tenn.).

After spending last week at No. 14, Marian dropped 10 spots to No. 24 as this week's biggest mover. The fall in the poll comes after suffering a 55-40 road loss to Indiana Wesleyan on Jan. 13.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences. The next poll will be announced on Jan. 25.
