Making a Contribution

Make a donation of $1,000 or more to the Haskell Cultural Center and Museum, and receive a unique and superbly crafted Platinum Print made from the original glass plate negative made by Frank A. Rienhart and Adolph Muhr in 1898. These historical images were captured at the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Exposition and Indian Congress in Omaha, NE. We will provide documentation of the Donation supporting the Cultural Center and Museum, made out to the Haskell Foundation, a non-profit tax organization, for your tax records purposes.

Platinum Printing is the process by which the negatives were originally printed in 1898. Each image is handmade and hand crafted from the original glass plate negative and printed on an 11” x 14” sheet of heavyweight fiber based paper, which has been hand coated with a platinum emulsion, stamped, numbered and signed by master platinum maker Jon Blum.

Each platinum print produces amazing detail and clarity in the finished product. The Platinum process is remarkable for its tonal range. The emulsion is absorbed into the fiber based paper, which in turn gives the image a three-dimensional effect. A silver photographic image has ten shades of grey between black and white, `platinum prints can have over 40 shades of grays incorporated into the prints. Platinum prints are incredibly stable. Each platinum print can last thousands of years if it well cared for and protected from environmental damage like direct sunlight, excessive heat, water, and careless handing. Platinum is chemically as stable as gold.

This Platinum collection has been enthusiastically received by audiences of numerous touring shows and is featured in the newly released publication, Beyond the Reach of Time and Change, edited by Simon Ortiz and offered for sale at the Cultural Center lobby bookshop. These Platinum prints have never been offered for sale to private collectors, until now. This is a rare opportunity to support the mission and efforts of the Haskell Cultural Center, and to collect a significant part of Native history.
