Dear Prospective Applicant,

We are pleased to provide you with an application packet for Haskell’s Elementary Teacher Education Program (ETEP) at Haskell Indian Nations University. To ensure your applications will be reviewed for admission, we encourage you to read this packet very carefully. If you applied to the ETEP prior to this semester, you may need to submit a new application form and any new materials not previously required. (Please note differences in the list of prerequisites under Admission Requirements.) Upon receipt, your application will be reviewed for completeness and for your admission eligibility. Cohorts of no more than 25 junior- level students are admitted each year. Best wishes in your academic and professional endeavors.

Elementary Teacher Education Program
Admission Requirements
An applicant must satisfy the following minimum criteria to be eligible for consideration:
1. Admission to Haskell Indian Nations University as a degree seeking student.
2. Completion of a minimum of 62 /64 semester hours (AA degree in Liberal Arts or AA Paraprofessional in Education preferred) as outlined in the Haskell Catalog by the time of admission to ETEP.
3. Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA that includes a C or better for courses listed in the core and major requirements.
4. Submission of official transcripts of all college course work.
5. Submission of scores on the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST). Contact the School of Education for required scores.
6. Submission of an application portfolio. A description of each of these requirements will be found inside under “Application Procedure”.

Application Procedure
Admission to Haskell
All applicants to the ETEP must first be admitted to Haskell as a degree-seeking student.

• Transfer Students must submit transcripts of all college work. At least 15 hours must be completed at Haskell.
• Former Haskell students who have not been enrolled at Haskell for one or more semesters must meet all criteria prior to application for readmission.

Completion of 62 Credits For An Associate of Arts Degree
Students may apply with less than 62 credit hours completed (based on semester system).
The remaining credits must be completed by the beginning of the admission semester to
the ETEP. A place is provided on the application form to indicate how you will finish the
required credits.

Minimum 2.5 GPA Required
Students must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA based on all course work completed from
Haskell and transfer institutions. Students who are enrolled at Haskell and have transfer
credits must be in good standing (2.0 or better) at Haskell even if the combined GPA is
2.5 or higher.

Prerequisites
All core and major requirement courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better
or transcript submitted to the Office of Admissions by the preceding desired semester
enrollment.

Application Portfolio Contents
A completed application portfolio must include the materials listed below. Please submit
together in an unsealed 9x12 envelope to the School of Education.
• Application for Admission form, which includes felony disclosure statement, completed and signed.
• An autobiography.
• A vision statement that indicates commitment to teaching.
• Evidence of good social standing.
• Letters of recommendation from faculty member and a community member.

Interview with Admissions Board
Interviews will be scheduled at specified times during the semester. An Admissions
Committee will meet with each potential student individually and interview questions
will be handed out prior to scheduled interview. Please check with the Dean’s Office or
your SOE Advisor for the dates and scheduled times for interviews.

Notification of Admission
Students will be notified regarding admission status in writing within two weeks of the
interview. Students will be admitted, provisionally or not admitted (declined admission).

Appeal Process
Students who wish to appeal an admission status of provisional or declined must submit a
letter of request within two weeks of notification to the Dean of the School of Education,
Haskell Indian Nations University, 155 Indian Avenue Box 5014, Lawrence, KS 66046-
4800.

Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST)
All students are required to complete the PPST before full admission is granted. Test
scores must be sent to the Haskell School of Education. For more information on
required scores, please contact the Dean’s Office.

Note: The School of Education reserves the right to solicit information from at least 3
faculty regarding an applicant’s (social, emotional, physical, spiritual) fitness for
teaching.
