NIH/DETS
The DETS Project is part of a national effort to decrease the incidence and improve the care of type 2 diabetes among American Indians and Alaska Natives. The DETS Project is a K-12 curriculum that has a multidisciplinary approach. The DETS curriculum consists of units that incorporate national education standards, inquiry learning, and American Indian / Alaska Native cultural and community knowledge. Mission of the Diabetes Education in Tribal Schools (DETS) Project:
A. Increase the understanding of health, diabetes, and maintaining life in balance among American Indian / Alaska Native
children, families, and communities.
B. Increase the number of American Indian / Alaska Native people in science or health careers.
