Haskell Enriching Native Youth in Rural Communities - HENYRC

Program Overview:
Haskell Indian Nations University is pleased to announce recruitment for the “Haskell Enriching Native Youth in Rural Communities” initiative. Students (grades 9-12) who attend rural public schools are currently being sought to participate in an online program for 9 months and students who complete the program will earn a trip to visit Haskell Indian Nations University (Lawrence, KS) and surrounding colleges/universities in June 2010.

Requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a rural public school.
  • 9th—12th grade
  • 2.0 Grade point average
  • American Indian/Alaska Native (provide proof of enrollment)
  • Submit completed application by September 25, 2009

The program will require students to complete tasks/assignments and submit information on a monthly basis via internet. The program will focus on preparing students for college and career exploration. Students will also participate in online discussions and parents/guardians will be asked to complete a pre and post evaluation regarding their student’s involvement.

The application and supporting materials must be received by September 25, 2009. All applicants will be notified of a decision regarding their application by September 30, 2009 by email and a letter will be mailed to their home address.
